UND Prepares Young Logistics For The Future

The Young UND Logistics Experts of the Future Certificate Program, organized within the framework of the cooperation of Istanbul University Faculty of Transport and Logistics and the International Transporters Association (UND), prepares young logisticians for the future with the sponsorship support of Ford Trucks. We listened about the details on the Logistics Experts of the Future from UND Chief Executive Officer Alper Özel, Istanbul University Faculty of Transport and Logistics Faculty Member Assoc. Dr. Ebru Demirci, Ford Trucks Turkey and International Markets Marketing Manager Emine Coşkun and the participants who completed the program with a degree.

Stating that the program, which aims to prepare young logisticians for the future, was implemented with the support of UND Chairman of the Board Çetin Nuhoğlu and the Board of Directors, Özel emphasizes that the program is the first and most widely attended program in terms of university and sector cooperation in our country, with its innovations and rich content. Stating that Young UND is a project organized and implemented by UND, Özel stated that they received support from the education infrastructure and academics of the Istanbul University Faculty of Transport and Logistics during the trainings held within the scope of the Young UND Academy. Stating that the Young UND, which was established to bring together young managers who have started to take on duties and responsibilities in companies, and second and third generation representatives under the same roof, was brought to life in order to bring the young energy, new perspectives and dynamism in the sector to UND working groups and to prepare the young people who will take responsibility in companies for the future; Özel also said that; “Our young people are graduated from many different fields of universities, but they will be interested in logistics in their companies. Therefore, we wanted to include these representatives in the notion of logistics and make the continuity of the companies healthier. UND, on the other hand, made a call to Turkey's international road freight transport and logistics sector in August 2020 for Young UND. One of the most important goals of the program was realized with the 'Young UND Academy', which was established within the scope of this program in order to increase the sufficient education, equipment, knowledge and experience of the second and third generation representatives of the logistics sector entrepreneurs, which is the backbone of the country's economy, and to improve their competencies.”

“We Aim To Continue The Program Indefinitely And Carry It To The Next Years”

Stating that the age range of the program is considered appropriate as 18-35, Özel said that; "This program is completely free. All participants of the Young UND Program have the right to participate in the Logistics Experts of the Future Certificate Program organized by the Young UND Academy in cooperation with Istanbul University Faculty of Transport and Logistics and IU Continuing Education Research and Application Center, and first-term Young UND graduates received these certificates. The program aims to assimilate the basic concepts and facts in the logistics sector, strategic and risk-oriented thinking powers, guidance and management skills for institutional development, data-based decision-making abilities and analytical thinking in order to adapt the Turkish logistics sector to global competition conditions and contribute to the development of our country's foreign trade. will focus on development. In addition to these, it will respond to industry needs such as developing innovative perspectives on sector-related issues and following the global agenda affecting the logistics industry more closely. For this reason, we aim to continue the program indefinitely and carry it to the next years.”

“It Was A Very Intensive Curriculum”

Stating that they first established the Young UND, and then they made surveys about what should happen at the Young UND and what subjects they would like to receive training on, Özel states that they also prepare the curriculum according to the demands. Stating that it is a very intense curriculum and the program consists of 36 separate topics in total, Özel said the following about the details of the courses: The course titled “Knowing Yourself and What is Your Role in Life? is given by our lecturer who is an associate professor. Of course, there are also professional subjects in the trainings. Road Cargo Insurances, Transportation Types and Comparisons... If you are in this sector, you need to know these. We have a lesson called Roles of Future Generations in Family Businesses. Logistics, Shipment and Warehouse Management, Customs Legislation and Practices, CMR Convention which is an important issue. We have lessons on rail and sea. We have Decision Support Systems in Logistics, Project Transportation, Customer Relationship Management, Strategic Logistics Management, Financial Management Strategies, Social Media Management courses. For example, our Sustainable and Green Logistics course is given by an associate professor. Developing Communication Skills is an important lesson and another important lesson is Stress Management... What is the concept of total quality in our Total Quality and Management Systems lesson? These are mentioned. Japanese practices are very common in the understanding of total quality in the world. Like identifying the problem on the spot. Of course, it is not possible to give the details of all the lessons. But if they understand the basics of the business, they will improve themselves.”

“There Is A Mutual Interaction And Development”

Stating that 60 percent of the courses in the created program consist of Istanbul University and 40 percent of active managers (UND) in the sector, it allows both parties to achieve very important gains, Özel said that; "They say that they have learned. For example, we get a response saying, 'Now I understand why CMR, insurance is so important'. Because they know where the truth of what they do comes from, they internalize it and say 'we knew it wrong, this is the truth'. These friends are in different companies; but now they know each other. There was a synergy between them. There are also returns to the teachers, and at this point, they see what the training they give has turned into or not in practice. Thus, there is a mutual interaction and development.”

“Ford Trucks Gave Us A Significant Power”

Stating that the first training program was held between 20:00 and 22:00 on Wednesdays and between 14:00 and 16:00 on Saturdays in the January-June period of 2021, Özel stated that the first semester graduates received their certificates with a magnificent ceremony. Özel finally said about the program that; “We started our next training program on Saturday, September 18, and we plan to complete the program on January 30, 2022. As Young UND is a continuous project, trainings and Young UND activities will continue at the same pace after the second term. In the program, technical visits such as field visits and "Good Practices & Practices in Logistics" will be held as soon as the pandemic conditions allow. Ford Truck sponsored us in this regard. We are also trying to plan visits to Ford Truck facilities. We want the participants to have some technological knowledge as well. Ford Truck will also have a vehicle technology lesson. Ford Trucks gave us a significant power.”
