We are talking with Prometeon Turkey, MEA, Russia, CIS Marketing Director Faruk Uslu, about the products of the Prometeon brand for electric vehicles, the main points that the user should pay attention to in these products, and the market expectations for the product groups for electric vehicles for the upcoming period. 

Talking about the products of the Prometeon brand for electric vehicles, Uslu, as Prometeon Tire Group, which is the only company focused on industrial tires in the world, produces industrial and commercial tires under the license of Formula, Pharos and Pirelli, as well as Anteo, Eracle, Tegrys brands, emphasizes that they closely follow the developments in the heavy vehicle and bus segments. Stating that they work together with vehicle manufacturers and play a role in determining the trends in the sector by developing products with Prometeon technology in line with the sustainability perspective, Uslu said that; “Electric vehicles first entered our lives with passenger cars and later with electric buses. As Prometeon, we meet the needs of users with our U02 e-Urban Pro Multiaxle pattern in 275/70R22.5 and 315/60R22.5 dimensions for electric buses. On the other hand, our R&D studies, which we carry out together with the manufacturers, continue for electric heavy duty vehicles.”

“The Most Important Feature of Our Product Is Being Designed According to the Needs of Electric Buses”

Stating that they offer the users U02 e-Urban Pro Multiaxle patterned tires for the electric bus segment, Uslu said that; “The biggest need of electric vehicles is durable tires that can carry the additional load caused by batteries.” Pointing out that the U02 e-Urban Pro Multiaxle pattern, which they developed at Prometeon R&D centers with the contribution of Turkish engineers, meets the needs of users in this context, Uslu said that; “The most important feature of our product is that it is designed according to the needs of electric buses. So much so that we increased the load carrying capacity of our U02 e-Urban Pro Multiaxle pattern. Another feature is rolling resistance. The better the rolling resistance label value on the tires, the higher the mileage that electric vehicles can perform on a single charge. As Prometeon, we attach great importance to the improvement of rolling resistance. For example, when the European Commission EU 2020/740 label values ??are compared, our 315/60 product is the best in its class in terms of rolling resistance label value. In addition, our products are suitable for use in all seasons and winter legislation. With M+S and 3PMSF (Three Peaked Snowflake) markings, it is designed to give maximum performance even in harsh winter conditions.”

Stating that as Prometeon, they work together with vehicle manufacturers in both prototype and mass production stages, Uslu said that; “We are the supplier. With the vehicles Karsan got the order  from Romania and delivered, our tires started to roll on European roads as well. These tires are specially designed for electric buses. Therefore, they have high load carrying capacity, low rolling resistance and low external noise class label values ??in accordance with user expectations.”

Mentioning that the load carrying capacity and rolling resistance label value are among the most important features for electric vehicle users, Uslu said that; “In addition to these features, the external noise class label value is an important feature to be considered. Because there is no engine sound in electric vehicles, the sound produced by the tire can affect the driver and passengers more. As Prometeon, we changed our product design by taking these features into account in our U02 tires. Thanks to our new carcass structure, we have produced tires that are more durable, with an increased load index and higher carrying capacity. Thanks to our new pulp structure and pattern design, we have lower rolling resistance and better external noise class label values.”

“Trends in the Vehicle Market Directly Affect the Tire Market”

Stating that the electric bus segment first appeared on the roads in 2017 and there was a vehicle market of approximately 400 thousand vehicles worldwide at that time, Uslu said that they predicted this market to be 1.2 million units by 2025, adding that; “This is the vehicle for the worldwide city bus segment. That means almost 50 percent of its fleet is electrified. This trend will continue with similar increases in Turkey. Trends in the vehicle market also directly affect the tire market. While working directly with the manufacturers, we also maintain our presence in the aftermarket to address the customers' need to renew the tires of their vehicles.”
