On June 4, Minister Pekcan announded that the Gurbulak and Habur Border Gates that were closed due to the corona virus pandemic, are opened by saying that; “Due to the Covid-19 pandemic affecting the whole world, our customs gates with Iran and Iraq, especially Habur and Gürbulak, which have been closed for a while, have been reopened for international freight transportation. I wish the decision mentioned will be beneficial to our exporters, shippers, our transportation sector and our entire trading community. ”
Trade Minister Pekcan said, “The restrictions applied to Iraq and Iran have been lifted because the spread of transmission speed decreased all over the world in the fight against Covid-19 and the effects of pandemics in those countries have decreased. Thus, the entry and exit of commercial vehicles will be allowed again by taking the health and safety measures implemented at our other customs gates.” The gates opened to Iran were closed on February 23 and the Habur Border Gate was closed on March 1 to international freight transport.
Contact-Free Trade Ends
Minister Pekcan said regarding the contact-free trade that; "Turkey is an important trade partner of Iraq and with the reopening of our customs Gates to Iran for international freight transportation; the contact-free trade which was conducted to avoid disruption of our business, will be ended. The contact-free trade was initiated in order to prevent trade interruptions within the scope of the measures taken against the corona virus pandemic.
